How I Can Help
Your Foundation

David's unique skills and achievements.

Organisational Development & Support

Unique understanding of charitable foundations; their history, motivations, and development. This is complemented by insights from more than a decade’s involvement with the diversity of foundations across Europe through DAFNE (Donors and Foundation Network, Europe); and through presentations at the conferences of the Council of Foundations in the USA; Philanthropy New Zealand in Auckland; Philanthropy Australia in Sydney, and to leading Canadian Foundations in Ottawa.

People focused, so I am experienced in establishing, developing and maintaining relationships; and doing so between executives; between executives and trustees; and with external partners.

Acute political antennae and sensitivity, combined with experience of dealing with politicians and officials at the highest levels across the UK, including Ministerial. This understanding enabled me to lead and manage the successful campaign to resist Government plans to impose mandatory payout on foundations.

Analytical skills in assessing research and evidence, and seeing its significance and potential implications. This included facilitating the production of three pioneering ACF guides on governance and financial management of charitable endowments

I have a firm understanding of the unique financial instrument that is the charitable endowment.

Strong organisational and event planning skills: these follow from extensive stage and production management experience for West End shows, with an acute sense of working to deadlines and of attention to detail.

Other roles and experience includes having led strategic reviews, frequent recruitment staff recruitment and interviewing; acting as Interim Director; as a strategic advisor; and I have also managed a small foundation through to completing its ‘spend out’.
